Everyone appreciates a compliment. And colorful buttons are fun! So why not combine the too? Please, have a free button. They’re complimentary*.
That was basically our strategy to draw attention to ourselves at E-live 2019. We sent an intriguing, button-shaped direct mailer with some inspiring buttons. The primary message was that Etrieve by Softdocs is a great complement to your existing Ellucian systems—it fits your Ellucian style. The medium being the message, we felt complimentary buttons best delivered it.
One component of our buttons promotion was a live social media campaign during E-live, where booth visitors with certain buttons could win some cool prizes.

* My inspiration for this concept was from a joke my dad told me years and years ago: So a man walks into a bar. He was down on his luck and feeling sorry for himself. The bartender brings him a drink and sets down a bowl of peanuts saying, “No charge for the peanuts.” The man sips at his drink, thinking to himself in solitude, and then hears a little voice say, “You’re looking good today.” The man looks around, but no one is sitting beside him. Then he hears another little voice say, “I like your shirt.” The man turns around quickly, but the bar is practically empty. He turns back to his beverage, and just as he takes another sip, he hears “I think you do great work.” Utterly puzzled, then man says to the bartender, “Hey, barkeep. Am I going crazy? I keep hearing little voices saying nice things to me.” The bartender walks up to the man and says, “Oh, it’s the peanuts. They’re complimentary.”
